CMO forgets to chant "#CopywritingIsEverything". Fired without notice.
CEO decided against the Notice period after reading "un-impactful" resignation email.
In a rather strange turn of events, Adam Reject, CEO of TestOnFinity fired Anthony Wayout, the CMO of the company after 5 years of continued marketing experiments. The CMO was appalled, the CEO determined.
TestOnFinity is a SaaS platform that lets you run tests only without defined time-limits so that marketing can always mention ‘we are testing it’ on any campaign effectiveness question.
We got on a call with Adam, the CEO to understand what transpired. He clarified,
"I have seen all the Thought Leader, B2B SaaS CMOs chanting “Copywriting is everything” at least 5 times a day. On the other hand, my CMO didn’t ever tweet something like that, never bothered to utter those words on a podcast, no mention on any LinkedIn update. None.
On top of it, when I questioned him about his unruly behavior, he had the audacity to take it casually and say - “Hey! Copywriting is a specialized skill. We can hire people. I don't really need to be the best at it.
Everyone knows that every 2 years, there's an updated war cry in B2B Marketing. Assume, if we didn’t believe collectively in ‘Outbound is Dead’, ‘ABM is the only way to market’, ‘Brand is the only moat’, and so on, can we even call ourselves SaaS Marketers?!
I mean, a marketer who isn’t updated, might as well become a CFO, right?!”
Anthony, the CMO couldn't get on a call because of "some WiFi issues" but agreed to an email conversation. Lolwut!
However, we received a response on the entire incident from the CMO as well, but it was as expected, poorly written. Hence, as soon as we get a better, re-written copy from our Upwork-writer in Bangladesh, we will update the story with his response.
